Coach Turner took over the Vermilion Community College football program in 1998 following many successful years as an assistant coach with the Ironmen. Turner, a native of Cleveland, Ohio and a graduate of Cleveland Central Catholic High School, began his college football playing career under legendary coach Eddie Robinson at Grambling State University. Coach Turner then transferred to Vermilion, where he was an All-American football player in the mid-80's for hall of fame coach Rudy Semeja. After VCC, Keith matriculated to The University of Wisconsin-Superior. He received his Bachelor's Degree at UW-S and was selected a football All-American for the Yellowjackets. Keith was also an outstanding wrestler, qualifying for nationals both years he was at Superior. After working at a school in Southern California, Turner joined the Vermilion Coaching staff in 1990. Keith has also been an assistant track and basketball coach at VCC. He was promoted to head football coach before the 1998 season. Keith also serves as an academic advisor with the Student Support Services department as well as being the head boys track coach at Babbitt High School. Since he has been at VCC, Coach Turner has been a terriffic role model for both the student-athletes and the student body in general at Vermilion. Keith's family consists of his wife, Genie and his three children, daughter Claudia, son Jaxon, and daughter Eve.
Steve Crittenden is a native of Galesburg, Illinois and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa where he was a member of the outstanding Peacock wrestling program. He received his Bachelor's degree in Human Services with a coaching endorsement in 1993. Steve serves as defensive line coach along with his official title of Academic Advisor/Director of Disability and Learning Center Services/Assessment Coordinator at VCC. He is an avid outdoorsman and has been racing sled dogs for several years now.
